Do you think the 45 Long Colt is only good for defense and cowboy action shooting? Of course not! You’re perfectly aware of the classic round’s utility for medium game hunting as well. It’s clearly evidenced by the existence of Remington Core-Lokt Handgun ammunition!
We’ve little doubt this round would serve you well during a life-or-death skirmish. Its 237 grain bullet weight falls right in the middle of the range of what’s usually preferred for defense. The Core-Lokt bullet is engineered to penetrate deeper than the typical, regular defensive JHP, however, which means it could pose a greater risk of overpenetration. Overpenetration’s not an issue when you’re out in the hinterlands, though, and a bullet that pierces flesh deeper and reliably expands to the shape of a six-pointed star is of great help when you’re gunning for whitetail or pig.
Nickel-plated cases? But of course. They are a hallmark of higher-quality ammo, as they ward off tarnishing in addition to curtailing friction during feeding and ejection.
