This subsonic 5.56x45 ammunition isn’t capable of cycling a semi-automatic. A specialized upper receiver could theoretically do it, but we cannot promise cycling in any event.
Let’s put it objectively:
• This 5.56x45 77 grain cartridge’s muzzle velocity equals 1,100 fps out of a 18” barrel. That stands for 84.7 power factor.
• A normal Mk 262 spec 5.56x45 77 grain cartridge’s muzzle velocity is 2,750 from a 20” barrel. That stands for 211.8 power factor.
It’s not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison, but it does underscore the main thing you gotta know about this special ammo by Armscor. IT’S SUBSONIC!
This round’s bullet does not break the sound barrier out of a 18” or shorter barrel. Its report therefore does not include the shrieking supersonic “kee-RACK” that an object makes when it accelerates beyond the speed of sound. That’s precisely what a suppressor needs in order to show off the full breadth of its abilities!
The bullet’s no slouch in terms of its design. It’s a Hornady open tip match, which combines a match-grade jacket, evenly distributed lead core, and ultra-sleek ogive to assure a super-predictable trajectory. The OTM won’t expand after impact. That plus its extraordinarily dull striking power make it a seriously bad choice for deer hunting, but you can still have a lot of fun giving varmints a hard time within around 100 yards.
