Some 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition is designed for deer hunting. Some is loaded with high-tech match grade bullets. This 6.5 CM ammo by Sellier & Bellot, right here? This cartridge’s bullet weighs 140 grains, and its muzzle velocity out of a 21.75” barrel is 2,658 feet per second. Once it is airborne, the FMJBT’s streamlined nose profile, jacket and boat tail all help it to conserve more kinetic energy and maintain a flatter trajectory as it reaches farther and farther downrange. The bullet reliably retains supersonic velocity until approximately 1,045 yards. (In case you like ballistic coefficients: G1 0.491; G7 0.247.)
This round’s FMJBT contains zero steel and cannot attract a magnet. It also cannot expand after hitting a living being, which makes its terminal ballistics exactly what you don’t want for deer hunting.
