Details

The deer will fear the deer hunter who hunts with Sellier & Bellot’s 6.5 Creedmoor soft point ammunition. This Czech-made round’s 140 grain SP may not have a lot of fancy bells and whistles attached, but its simple design has endured the decades simply because it is so darn effective.

An SP bullet’s blunt nose profile makes it less ballistically efficient than an HPBT, OTM or polymer tip, but it still overcomes frontal air resistance effectively enough to retain at least 1,000 ft lbs of energy until almost 500 yards. That’s the sweet spot for bagging bambis.

The SP’s real performance feature is its terminal expansion. The bullet’s pliant lead core is left bare by its partial jacket, so it can flatten out, tumble around and create a gaping wound channel through soft tissues. The SP’s brass jacket is durable enough to prevent a significant amount of fragmentation, which is good because a mostly intact bullet penetrates deeper.

Sellier & Bellot is a very old company, and their components reflect their experience. This ammunition’s brass cases feed and extract smoothly. Its powder is clean-burning, and its non-corrosive Boxer primers make it rust-free and reloadable.
