★ This ammunition’s headstamps may read “7.62x51.” In spite of that, it is still 308 Winchester. ★
Trying to reach even farther than 147 grain FMJs will allow? Then it’s time to take the next step up in long-range accuracy and embrace the 168 grain HPBT!
This cartridge’s bullet doesn’t just hold a more predictable, less-influenced-by-crosswinds trajectory because it weighs a little more. As an HPBT, it combines the drag-curtailing form and well-balanced weight it needs to make the trip from A to B without a hitch.
Don’t misinterpret the HPBT’s appearance. It only looks like a JHP. It doesn’t share any of the JHP’s capacity for terminal expansion, though, which is why it’s only good for hunting varmints – and maybe yotes, if you’re so inclined – but not deer or larger game.
See the discoloration on this ammo’s new cases? That doesn’t mean they are reloads. That just indicates that the brass was heat-treated at the factory (which is good) without being polished afterward (which has no effect on performance at all).
