This round features its caliber’s heavyweight 147 grain projectile. Its muzzle velocity hasn’t got the punch it would take to shatter the sound barrier, and as the result it is more compatible with a suppressor than a supersonic load. The bullet has still got a highly deleterious terminal effect, however, as it’s a jacketed hollow point with the ability to penetrate deeply as it widens and disperses shocking energy within its target. The bullet’s jacket also smooths out feeding in a semi-automatic, whether it’s a pistol or an AR-15 style rifle, and staves off rapid fouling of the bore as well.
This round quickly demonstrates why Winchester has earned their lofty reputation. Its brass is high quality and certainly supple enough to weather multiple reloading sessions, and its primer and propellant both burn clean to deliver a constant chamber pressure and muzzle velocity.
