It’s also great for event starter guns, and it will leave the visible smoke signature that the audience expects and enjoys. Its non-corrosive rimfire primer and factory fresh brass casing give this cartridge a wonderful shelf life, so it’s content to sit in between track and field events.

Q: will these blanks smoke and create noise associated with live ammo? is there any shrapnel ?

A: These are black powder blanks so there will be a noticeable smoke discharge. There is no projectile, save the fiber plug.
There will not be any shrapnel to speak of but the firearm still must be pointed in a safe direction.
