Details
You didn’t put together your short barrel rifle to make it look pretty. You built it to keep you safe in the event that some villain ever tries to make you unsafe. That rifle deserves ammo specifically engineered to help it do so important a job effectively. And lo and behold, we happen to have that right here!
This 5.56x45 cartridge is from Hornady’s BLACK label, so it’s optimized to deliver the goods out of any rifle no matter its length or inner workings. This particular ammo is best suited for an SBR with a barrel 10.5 to 11.5 inches in length, and features low flash propellant to keep your aim on point in the nighttime, a measurably softer report conducive to suppressor use, and the ability to prevent fouling and overheating in suppressors as well.
Hornady equipped this round with their 75 grain InterLock projectile. It’s a high tech jacketed soft point, designed for deep penetration with its strong one-piece lead core, InterLock ring that fastens its jacket and core together, and deep-set toothed cannelure. The InterLock’s jacket controls extremely uniform expansion courtesy of the symmetrical grooves that weaken it around its tip, as well as its varying thicknesses that promote expansion even at lower velocities. With its impressive performance on the FBI test protocol, this is a round that you’ll want on your side when you’re around someone else who isn’t.

Q: I assume these rounds will still work for home protection in a standard AR15 with 16" barrel. Is this correct or not recommended?

A: Hi David! Hornady advises against firing this ammo in a rifle with a barrel that is longer than 14". Chamber pressure will probably be unsafely high if your rifle's barrel is 16".
