Hornady TAP Patrol isn’t wanna-be 5.56x45 cop ammo. It is the REAL DEAL: made for LEOs, yet no less available to those who would defend themselves when no badges are nearby.
The CX is most famous for being a lead-free hunting bullet, but it brings a lot to the table for home defense as well. It is made of solid copper, and accordingly a great deal more durable than a traditional lead-core alternative. Superior ductility ensures that the CX remains completely or mostly intact as it tunnels through a barrier and, subsequently, flesh – precisely the condition it must be in in order to penetrate to a predictable depth. The CX’s terminal expansion is equally clockwork, as the polymer tip (A) prevents debris from impacting inside the nose cavity before it (B) slams inward to catalyze energetic, highly injurious expansion.
This ammunition is loaded with lead-free primers, visibly annealed (but no less brand new) brass cases, and propellant that is formulated for temperature stability and muzzle flash reduction. Hornady notes that it specifically passes FBI protocol when it is fired from a 14.5” to 16.0” barrel!
