Speer’s Gold Dot G2 projectile so advances the jacketed hollow point design that it’s nearly a different kind of bullet altogether. Like the original Gold Dot, this 45 ACP +P cartridge’s 230 grain bullet is highly accurate and boasts exceptional weight retention courtesy of its concentric, electrochemically bonded jacket. Even through safety glass, this bullet retains over 90 percent of its weight.

It’s its hollow point nose cavity where the G2 gets really interesting. The nose cavity is actually relatively shallow, and contains elastomer. Upon impact that pliant material is forced into the pressure formed core’s internal fissures, forcing them apart to produce a highly uniform mushroom pattern. The elastomer also helps keep the G2 clear of debris that could have impacted its terminal effect, giving it even better performance when barriers are involved.

This round’s brass casing is reliable as well. Plated with nickel, it is easier to spy in a darkened chamber, inherently resistant to corrosive forces, and furthermore reduces friction during feeding and extraction. What more could your everyday carry ask for?

A: MV = 950 fps, ME = 461 ft lbs (5" test barrel)

A: Speer used a 5" barrel to record this round's ballistic data: 950 fps MV, 461 ft lbs ME. Zeroed in at 25 yards, you can expect -1.7" bullet drop at 50 yards, -13.1" at 100 yards.

A: Thank you for reaching out, Johnathan! The manufacturer's cited 950 fps muzzle velocity for this cartridge was measured out of a 5" test barrel. Your weapon's shorter barrel ought to give this round a slower MV by comparison, but the G2 projectile is designed to expand over a range of velocities including lower ones. For practical self-defense distances we believe this ammo ought to serve you well, especially given that it is overpressure.
