Do you have an M1 Garand? Then you’ve got two options:
1. Play it safe, and only fire 30-06 that’s specifically designed not to damage the rifle’s operating rod; or
2. Play it fast and loose, and risk looking like an enormous dingbat when you damage your rifle in front of others.
Choose option 1. And choose Hornady’s M1 Garand-safe 30-06 Springfield ammunition while you’re at it!
SAAMI specifies a maximum chamber pressure of 60,000 psi for modern 30-06 ammo. This ammo, however, is loaded to a max chamber pressure of approximately 50,000 psi, which satisfies the military’s original M2 ball specifications. Simple as that! You may even purchase this ammo if you’re just hoping for lower-recoil 30-06 target shooting, though we cannot predict just how much less recoil you’re going to feel.
This ammo’s components are all straightforward. Steel-free 150 grain FMJ bullets that you can fire anywhere. Brand new brass cases which would make any handloader happy. Noncorrosive Boxer primers that do the only thing they’re meant to. Truly everything an M1 Garand man could ask for!
