More than a novelty, Winchester may be making a power move to “revolutionize” the industry. The Train and Defend concept is so good, it makes one wonder why it hasn’t been done before now. Pick the best few offerings and sell those, each with their own purpose. Some rounds are better for training with, some are better for personal defense. Why can’t there just be a transparent marketplace that has a few best in class offerings for the consumer to choose from? It saves money for the factory in marketing, packaging and time on production machinery to produce less SKU’s. It saves hassle for the consumer who just wants the best that the company offers in a given caliber.
This straightforward type of mentality makes a lot of sense if you can do it across a single line, keeping specialty builds with the type of flexibility needed (like hunting rounds). For personal defense and range shooting, this is a novel concept. Winchester has put significant resources into the play here and is offering this .45 Auto round as a piece in the Train and Defend line for the caliber. They are essentially saying if you want a 230 grain .45 ACP Winchester Defensive ammunition, this is the one. They may be onto something with that kind of simplicity.
