Winchester’s entry in the value frangible load market for the 5.56x45 cartridge, this ammo is a simple choice for most shooters looking to experiment with frangibles out of their rifle. Winchester gives you the obvious quality manufacture and consistency that justifies the price point and the clean reloadable brass, and the potential benefits of frangible projectiles should give you the rest of the impetus to try it.

Frangible rounds in the 5.56 can be very good for close quarters defensive shooting reducing the risks of ricochet while providing good energy dump on target so you are hitting your target hard enough to incapacitate it.

Additionally, frangible rounds for the AR and other 5.56 platforms make sense because many ranges (especially indoor ranges) have backstops that cannot accommodate high powered rifle cartridges without the frangible thereby making this round a necessity. The lack of ricochet and the reduced risk of over penetration makes these suitable range rounds. The price point makes it something you can stock up, for when the need arises.

Suitable for use in most 5.56x45 firearms.

A: Hello! Winchester does not provide specific information as to what the frangible core is made of. They simply note the projectile as having a copper jacket with a frangible core.
