Hornady may have taken some artistic liberties when they shortened “Copper alloy eXpanding” to “CX” – but that doesn’t make it anything less than one heck of a great lead-free hunting bullet.

This 30-06 round’s 150 grain CX improves all aspects of performance, first of them being accuracy. The sleek, grooved, and balanced bullet has all the right effects on drag reduction. Its polymer tip (the Heat Shield, which doesn’t lose its dispersion-minimizing Drag Variability Reduction Technology flat tip no matter how intensely aerodynamic friction bakes it) only helps the CX soar flatter, ignore wind deflection better, and reach its goal with higher striking power (1,955 ft lbs at 300 yards; 0.418 G1 BC).

Lead’s nowhere near as ductile as copper is. The CX, being all copper, expresses that fact to the hunter’s advantage by exhibiting excellent weight retention (95% or higher, typically). The Heat Shield’s job switches over from accuracy to lethality on impact, when it jams itself into the CX’s nose cavity to catalyze wide, multi-petaled expansion.
